Burbank Sanitary District provides emergency sewer response service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Please call us IMMEDIATELY if you are experiencing:

  • Unusually slow plumbing drainage
  • Water backing up into your tub, sink, toilet and/or washing machine
  • Discolored water in your sink or tub
  • Water overflowing from your cleanout or a street manhole
  • If you see someone dumping into a manhole
  • Foul sewer odor

AFTER Reporting a Sewer Backup:

  • Do not run water
  • Do not flush any toilets
  • Do not run the washing machine or dishwasher
  • Do not attempt to clean up the sewage spill
  • Make sure cleanout is accessible
  • Unlock any gates if necessary to access cleanout

Once a Sewer Backup is Reported:

Our inspector will respond immediately to access the situation, and determine if the backup is an on-site (property) or off-site (District) issue.  If it is determined to be an OFF-SITE ISSUE, the inspector will call a contracted company to clear the District lateral and clean up any sewage spill.  If it is determined to be an ON-SITE ISSUE, the inspector will advise the homeowner to call a plumber.

PLEASE NOTE:  A property line cleanout must be present in order for the District to provide service.  If there is no cleanout, it is up to the homeowner to obtain proper permits to have one installed.  This can be done over the counter at the District office, or at the County Building Department.
