We contract our trash, recycling and yard services through GreenWaste Management, Inc. Click here to see the contract. These collection services are billed directly to the property owners by GreenWaste.

GreenWaste’s sorting program is compliant with SB13 83, GreenWaste provides both a garbage stream (Gray Cart) and a source separated organics stream (Green Cart).  Food scraps, food soiled paper, and other organics are recovered from the Gray Cart at the GreenWaste MRF, which serves as a high diversion organic waste processing facility.

Who Is Responsible For What?

The pipe that conveys wastewater from your property to the District’s sewer main is called the sewer lateral. There are two sections to a lateral:
The first section runs from the building to the sidewalk/property line, commonly 4” in diameter (on private property) is the property owner’s
responsibility
The second section runs from sidewalk/property line, to the center of the street/alley commonly 4” in diameter (on District’s property) is the
responsibility of the District
The property owner is responsible for the routine maintenance of private sewer lateral
The image used below is for the reference purpose only. Pipe diameters do not reflect the actual pipe diameters of BSD.

The District maintains the sewer street lateral from the edge of the property line, out to the street. In order for us to access our lateral, a property line cleanout must be installed within 5 feet of the property line.

The property owner is responsible for maintaining the house lateral within the property (from the property line to the house).

Not sure if you have an approved property line cleanout?
Click here to view a map of existing property line cleanouts within the district.

PLEASE NOTE: If you live in the portion of the district south of Scott Street on Laswell, Arleta, Raymond, or Irving Avenues (otherwise known as “Zone A”), your situation is different. Your sewer main is in the easement behind your house.
